THE VICTORIAN MOON SEED WAS PLANTED:
Victorian Moon Antiques & Enchantments was founded in 2017 in Flagstaff, Arizona by Sharon Lynne. Sharon began her love of antiques after receiving some of her grandmother's beautiful vintage pieces while living in Ocean Beach, California, which was once a well known destination for its numerous antique stores. Sharon often found herself wandering through the local antique stores for hours on weekends, discovering a love and appreciation of the unique pieces and adding to her own growing collection.
As Sharon's penchant for antique and vintage collectables grew, she also began to study herbs, natural healing, and magic during her early 20's in California, which eventually led her to bringing her passion for natural healing and her love of Victorian and Edwardian history into the present. Fusing the two together and putting them in one shop, she has created a unique and beautiful in-person shopping experience.
Sharon and her staff are always eager to show you items from all over the world dating as far back as the mid 1800's, while making you a custom magical charm or potion! Victorian Moon Antiques & Enchantments is definitely the perfect blend of Victorian history and magic, all rolled up into a one of a kind destination!
SHARON'S WORDS AND INSPIRATIONS:
"Victorian Moon Antiques & Enchantments first opened April 7, 2017 in a 200 square foot space located in the basement of the historic 1920's era Knackard Building where we are still located. In the beginning it seemed that everyone had doubts about what I was trying to do, which is probably the reason for the old adage, "Hide your light under a bushel", because revealing your plans and ambitions to others is like handing out invitations to entertain their negativity. Granted, being a retail shop that was tucked away downstairs in a basement-level space wasn't ideal, but I had to start somewhere. But then, a 300 square foot, street-level retail space inside the Knackard Building became available soon after my initial opening and I immediately knew it was a better choice that would get more foot traffic and visibility for my store. I moved out of the basement space within the first month of opening and into the new space where I would stay for almost three years as I worked to developed my store motif and business identity. I was still tucked away down the hallway of the long commercial building, but my small and unique, creative enterprise was gaining traction in the local Flagstaff retail market space and it felt like I was moving forward. Being in the newer street-level space down the hall gave me important time to develop and grow Victorian Moon beyond just being a retail store for local shoppers.
There is a time that every aspiring entrepreneur looks forward to... the time when they are able to say, "I quit my day job", and I was determined to fulfill that dream as I focused all of my passionate work efforts to build Victorian Moon. My time "down the hall" was a step along that path. It was during my time in that space when I started to develop product ideas based on my passion for herbs and natural healing modalities. Along with my personal product ideas, I began to imagine and create a branding identity with my own logos, labels, product descriptions, etc. to offer in my retail store, but also for a possible future foray into the challenging market of "online retail".
As our popularity was growing, we built our website and started to get an online presence through social media, people started to become familiar with our products and our brand. Customers started visiting our store more and more, and as Victorian Moon's future was beginning to look brighter I had to pick a moment in time to turn, look back, assess and ask myself, "Was I ready?"... Yes, I was ready. So, the decision was made and I quit my day job.
Inside the halls and walls of the historic Knackard Building, ghostly whispers and utterances started to emerge that a large, prime, street-facing 1100 square foot retail store front was coming available. With its huge, bright and shiny display windows overlooking the historic streets of Downtown Flagstaff where local residents, college students, visitors, and tourists can be found all day-every day, walking up and down the sidewalks itching to SHOP and enjoy life, it was a "no brainer". When building management asked if we would be interested in renting the space for Victorian Moon, without hesitation, our answer was a resounding and thunderous, "YES!!!" It was this growing retail shop owners dream come true.
Victorian Moon started like a fertile seed that was planted in the earth during its basement days, which then sprouted up into the soil above as we were down the hallway, and has now sprung up above the ground into the full light of day where we continue to grow. In February of 2020, we moved into our current space where we now have a bold presence and add our unique character among the amazing variety of other shops and businesses that line Downtown Flagstaff's San Francisco Street. With greatly enhanced exposure to the popular Downtown Flagstaff retail shopping district our business began to thrive. Being in this beautiful, large and new retail space, I'm thankful for the opportunities that are given to me every day to meet new people and grow Victorian Moon. It wasn't completely clear when I first started my entrepreneurial journey in the basement what the final result would be, but if you believe in yourself, your dreams, and you keep putting one foot in front of the other and never stop, anything is possible!" - Sharon Lynne
